To promote the development of economic research and academic activities that contribute to BCRA monetary and financial policy design. To develop models that facilitate an understanding of the Argentine economic dynamics, the projection of variables and the assessment of policy impact. To prepare theoretical and empirical research documents on monetary policy, the banking system, the capital market, the domestic and international real and monetary economy.
He holds a degree in Economics from Universidad de Buenos Aires and completed his PhD in Economics at Columbia University.
He is a Distinguished Professor at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and a researcher at the CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council), where he is currently on leave. His research works on macroeconomics, international finances and economic development have been published in prestigious international scientific magazines. He has been leading the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) in International Finances since 1999.
He has been director of the Economics Department at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), President of the Latin American Econometric Society and member of both the Administration Council of Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), and the Administration Council of global Development Network, GDN. He has also served as consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Federal Reserve. He has given courses as well as public and private lectures in many universities, central banks, and financial institutions in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
He was appointed President’s Fellow at Columbia University (1989), Guggenheim Fellow (2005), Fellow at the Econometric Society (2010) and was awarded the Konex Foundation platinum Prize (2016).
