Jorge Luis Borges, the famous Argentine poet and writer, was born in the city of
Buenos Aires on August 24, 1899. His literary talent made him a candidate to the
Nobel Prize in Literature and won him many international awards. The constant
publication of books on his works and personality hint at his everlasting fame.
On the centennial of his birth, the Central Bank of Argentina issues a
gold
and silver proof coin and a
cupronikel circulated coin to honor
his memory.

These coins come in velvetex packs with a gold
coin and a silver coin, and individually for each proof alloy,
all of them with their corresponding certificate of authenticity.
Cardboard envelopes were also produced for the circulated coin,
with a short biography of the writer and the issue
specifications. Five thousand numbered packs have been made.
